Mourning

Our nation is grieving the loss of nine beautiful lives that were taken Wednesday evening during a bible study at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. All of the victims were black, and with statements from survivors and the shooter himself, it is believed that this was a hate crime motivated by race.

Please make it a goal to talk to your children about racial differences, about acceptance, about tolerance and love. Not just today. Not just following the events of horrific attacks like this. Every Day.

Create an environment that honors and embraces diversity. From the art and music in your home, to the cultural events you attend, and of course to the books you share. Model what it looks like to appreciate and embrace the differences among us.
